During my secondary days, my friends and I love to go camping at Pulau Ubin and although I have not experienced any ghostly figures nor sound, some of my friends did.
On one occasion, one of my good friend and his brother together with me was supposed to meet a group of friends at the old NCC campsite, however we only managed to reach the isle late and it was already sun down when we set off from the village. Armed with a torch light each, we made our way towards the camp site, only to find no one there. Dismay and felt ‘sabo-ed’, we had no choice but to make camp since it was 9ish. We only had hammocks with us at that time thinking that the rest had everything else, so we chose 3 trees to tie our hammocks. I found a spot tied my hammock and so did my friend’s brother, my friend had no choice but to tie he’s on top of mine.. Double decker hammocks . Ok, back to my story, we finished up and sat around chitchatting and went to sleep early so we can leave early the next morning. I slept through the night except for the frequent commando mossie which never had trouble stinging me through the nylon covers. I was always the first to wake up and woke the other two who was still asleep, we packed our stuff and prepared to walk back to the jetty. My friend who was normally chatty, was extremely quiet and because we just woke up, I didn’t think much of it.
When we reached the jetty and had breakfast at the muslim stall, my friend relate what happened to him the night before. He told us, he had problem falling asleep and was staring into the trees above but eventually doze off only to be awaken by a noise above, the first thing he saw when he opened his sleepy eyes was an image of a lady sitting on one of the branches above, swinging her legs and looking at him.. he was so scare $hitless, he kept looking at her until he was too tired and fell asleep
I don’t know how credible his story was and he was a trustworthy guy and I kept his story in view
On another occasion, this time with everyone together, I think it was 7 or 8 of us. We had plans to explore other camping areas and found an ideal spot near to the coastal area near to the NCC camp site. We were young and always full of energy, we always buy a few gallon of kerosene to play around. When we reached the our camping ground, we usually scout the area to see who was around our area and we found the only living soul near to us was at the NCC camp site. We party the night, shouting, singing and screaming our lungs out, at one point, we we sitting around the camp fire chit chatting among ourselves and out of the blues, a large tree trunk came flying from the nearby bushes onto the camp fire, we were so pissed about the incident, we picked up sticks and whatever we could find and wanted so bad to kick whoever threw that tree trunk. We ran towards the direction the thing came from, but we couldn’t see anyone and we were sure there wasn’t no one around that area because there was a steep dropoff.
you may ask how come we were sure there was anyone around that area? well, we tied camouflaged metal wires around the area and if anyone had ran after throwing that tree trunk would surely trip and fall flat. Our traps were tried and tested by some NCC cadets . ok ok, back to the story. After failing to found the culprit, we sat down and discuss about the incident. We were sure that no single man could have threw that tree trunk alone, if there were 2 or more person, how can we not see any of them.. So, our imagination wondered and we did consider the possibility that it could be the work of something supernatural, spooked and tired, we decide to pack up and head for the jetty to sleep, it was about 2am at that time.
We were about to reach the village, maybe another 10mins or so, I was behind the front runners of the pack (we were walking in pairs), one of the guys infront was holding on to a mini-compo, then all of the sudden, the guy beside the one carrying the mini compo asked if we heard anything… I looked at him and then to the rest… “What sound, you heard har?” I asked, he replied baby crying… there was a spit second pause and the guy holding the mini compo on his shoulder said “YES, I too heard it”. Then someone in the group say “Whatever it is, let’s not say anymore and keep moving”. We quick march to the pier and slept till dawn.
Except for the two infront, none of us heard the crying. My brother told me there are insect that could sound like a baby crying, we could be wrong and maybe the earlier incident did spook us alittle. My brother also told me, there were stories about children being killed by cars/lorries at the area we encountered the “Cry”, he probably trying to scare me , but it could happened.
