I don’t recall seeing rain on a NDP before. Have you? Is it such coincidence that our country’s birthday had been blessed with such fine weather on this special day every year? As far i know, during rehearsals it rained before and they continue the marching as long the sky doesn’t have thunders and lightnings.
So is it so special on this day that our government had chosen to go independence some 50 years ago? It is believed that it is possible to control weathers using witchcraft. I am not sure if science can stop rains but I am pretty sure it can delay rains by spraying chemicals in the sky to quicker the process of clouds forming. Infact in many European countries, they used aircraft to spray chemicals to their sky which leaves a long trail. It is called the chemtrails. There are reports about it’s side effect on human by using this type of artificial methods of controlling the weather.
Back to our NDP, I have heard of stories regarding uses of prayers in Malaysia to control weather for important events. Infact with today’s weather forcasting technology, I believe even if it is to rain on that day, they would had found out way before hand and had advised the organisers so they can do something about it.
A simple method of quicker the process of building clouds which would then be ‘forcing’ the clouds to rain is a reality. Since clouds are formed by air and vapour, then wouldn’t it rain and therefore becomes “dried” if this method is engaged? Its something like condensation where once you finished condensing the water, then there would be nothing left to condense.
But if witchcrafts were to be believed, then they would be placing onions and gingers around the 4 corners of the field. So anyone who is part of this year’s NDP entourage can help check this out? 😛
Ok i’m not sure how true is this but from a close friend who had been involved with the logistic affair of the NDP and had read through some of the procedures in the documents. He said if ever heavy rain suddenly threatens the procession of the event, the army will release a special type of ‘bomb’ into the sky to break up the clouds and so rain can be delayed or prevented. He said the ‘bomb’ had never been used before in his time.
So can rain be manufactured? Can it be stopped? The country is short of water and yet on this particular day water is the last thing we want! How irony can it gets?

You must be a young punk; that’s why you cannot recall any rain during NDP.
Or you chose not to remember any rain during NDP?
1968 NDP, at the Padang, we the Guards of Honour were totally drenched,
shivering and teeth clattering, in the heavy down-pour and our white
ceremonial uniforms were soaked in red because some colours ran off,
while PM Lee Kuan Yew, under an umbrella, was inspecting us.
That was the famous episode that LKY has been talking and boasting about
regarding the Spirit of 68, the spirit of the people who, despite the heavy
downpour, stood still there in perfect harmony and resilience, without a flinch, against the bad weather.
We weathered on. That is why you can enjoy your carefree and comfortable life
today, obliviously of what hardship others had gone through before you!
Please try not to be a frog in the well.
