On June 19, 1997, my friends and I came back after watching a midnight show at Tampines. We were waiting for a cab as all of us were staying at Bedok. After taking a few puffs of cigarettes, we managed to flag a taxi that came out of the blue. It was a woman driver but we felt something weird because she was wearing a black Ray-Ban with a scarf covering her head. When she asked for our destination, we heard a man’s voice instead. We also could hardly saw her face. We were shocked but remained calm throughout the journey. She asked us whether we are good to our parents and advised us not to stay out late at night. We nodded in response.
When we reached our destination, my friend wanted to pay the fare but she declined to accept it. However, she made us promise something. That is to pray and offer joss-sticks for her at a nearby temple. She told us that her name was C@@@@@@. We just said ‘yes’ and went off.
Days later, one of my Chinese friend said that only the dead are offered jossticks at the temple. I was shocked to hear that. Since then, I tried not to go back late at night again.
