Haunted In Simpang Bedok

I was maybe around 21 years old and I was visiting a friend of mine at their house in Tampines. They are a small chinese family and they had just recently had a new baby in the family. And also, unfortunately a death in the family too. A grandfather who had lived with them for quite a a while had recently passed away a few months before. He had taken care of the newborn when he had been alive whenever the parents were not around.

Now, my friend’s parents have this intercom system placed in the babies room. Whenever the baby was to cry or such, you can hear her through a walkie talkie sort of thing that came w/ the intercom system and u can place it in the room where you can hear. But sometimes the frequency gets mixed up and you can hear music coming from it sometimes off of local radio stations but that was only if you had the walkie talkie thing flipped onto the wrong channel.

On this particular night my friend and I were watching TV in the living room and her parents were sitting around reading and chatting amongst themselves too. And the baby was fast asleep in her room that was in the back of the house. The intercom system was placed on a table right next to her crib and the walkie talkie was placed in the living room with the rest of us on a coffee table all with in hearing range of us kids and the parents. We could hear her soft even breathing letting us know that she was sound asleep.

A while later we heard the baby making gurgling noises but we didn’t make much fuss over it. A little bit later we started to hear her making more noise as if she was waking up and was getting ready for her famous tantrum cryings. My friend’s dad started to get up to go and quiet her down but the mom stopped him and told him not to worry, she’ll quiet down on her own maybe, just give her some time.

So the dad sat back down and the noises eventually stopped. About fifteen minutes we heard noises again, the baby was definately awake and began crying softly. The was a occurance that happens frequently whenever I was over at my friend’s house and I didn’t make anything of it. My friend and I just continued to watch our TV program. Eventually the baby started making more noise that it was interfereing w/ our program. The mother proceeded to get up and go to her room when the baby quieted down and we heard an old man’s voice telling her to hush and be a good little girl and not to make so much noise. This was all said in chinese too just like my friend’s grandfather use to speak it w/ a slight accent. The baby quieted down and we could still hear the old man’s voice quieting her down and talking softly putting her back to sleep. We could also hear soft rythmetic pattings on her small back that you would usually do when u want to quiet down a small child.

My friend’s mom freaked out and quickly ran to the back room followed by her dad and us kids. We reached the room and her mom was bending over the crib checking on the baby and she was fast asleep again (If she had even been awake in the first place.) There was no one else in the room. The dad checked around too. He told the kids to return to the living room to check out the walkie talkie to see if it was on the right frequency channel. So we went back to listen and we could hear my friend’s mom and dad talking quietly in hushed voices.

So it had to have been the right channel because we were hearing right. We reported back to the parents and everyone was mystified and a little creeped out.

Was it the grandfather’s spirit returning to take care of the baby or just a strange frequency occurance from a radio station. That happend to be playing an old man’s voice in chinese? It was very long ago but I still remember the incident and it sort of frightened me. I still went over to my friend’s house after that incident and nothing else out of the ordinary happened after that either.
