The chiang-shih is the Chinese version of the vampire. In Chinese belief, each person has two souls, a superior or rational soul and an inferior irrational soul. The superior soul could leave a sleeping body and appear as the body's double as it roamed about. It could also possess and speak through the body of another. However, if something would happen to the disembodied soul during its journey, its body would suffer.

The inferior soul, on the other hand, was called p'ai or p'o and was that which inhabited the body of a fetus during pregnancy and often lingered in the bodies of the dead. It was thought to preserve the corpse. If the p'ai was strong enough, it could preserve and inhabit a corpse for a length of time, using the body to serve its needs. The body animated by the p'ai was called a chiang-shih.

Usually chiang-shih were created after a particularly violent death, such as a suicide, hanging, drowning, or smothering. It could also be a result of an improper burial, as it was thought that the dead would become restless if their burial was postponed after their death. The chiang-shih were not known to rise from the grave, so their transformation had to take place prior to burial.

Chiang-shihs were nocturnal creatures and had difficulties crossing running water. It was said that they were particularly vicious and ripped the head or limbs off their victims. They were also said to have a strong sexual drive which led them to attack and rape women. After a period of growing stronger, chiang-shihs would gain the ability to fly, grow long white hair, and possibly change into wolves.

People protected themselves from chiang-shih by using garlic or salt. They were also driven away with loud noises, and it was thought that thunder could kill them. Brooms were used to sweep the creature back to its resting spot, while iron filings, rice, and red peas were used as barriers. If a chiang-shih reached its flying, white-haired stage, it could only be killed by a bullet or thunder. Its body must then be cremated.

Kwee Kia is also known as the toyol in Malay. The closest English translation will be Little Devil, due to its small figure. The Kwee Kia is powered by a young, angry spirit and is normally ‘adapted’ for supernatural purposes, mostly bad ones. Like the toyol, Kwee Kia can be used to steal, be it money or other things. It can also be used for minor supernatural threats to scare its owners’ enemies away.

It is believed that Kwee Kia was actually a dead foetus, removed from its mother’s womb. One can acquire a Kwee Kia by getting it fresh from the grave or by passing IT down from generation to generation, from father to son. Of course, this involves chanting and all but since this is evil, it is not encouraged and it will not be discussed here.

The owner will actually have a special altar in the house for the Kwee Kia. There will be a glass tube-like structure, big enough to hold an ugly, overgrown, bloated, not fully developed foetus. Yes! The foetus itself in the house. The dead baby in a tube! Evil!!!

The glass tube is filled with a milky solution, something to preserve the foetus with. Candles, fruits, food and even toys will be laid before it. These are the necessary offerings. It also includes sweets and candies, anything that a small child would like. It is believed that the Kwee Kia comes out at night to play when everyone else is asleep. It will play with its favourite toy among those offered on the altar. Often, it will make some noise but no one shall disturb it.

The Kwee Kia is actually like a small child so the way to chase it away is to ‘scold’ it. Do what you would do to stop the children from playing soccer in your void deck. Is not known though whether or not the ways to prevent the toyol from coming back will work on the Kwee Kia. Since Kwee Kia is allegedly known to be toyol too, these might work for them both.

If you often find your money missing from the drawer, place a small mirror in it. Make it the first thing you see when you open the drawer. Toyols are said to be afraid of their own reflection. Trap IT. Bait IT. Place some needles beneath your dollar notes. They will cause severe pain to the toyol. They will shriek in pain and by God’s Will, that will be the last time you’ll be ‘hearing’ from them.

One piece of advise, NEVER indulge in the supernatural. Work your way to success, earn it the right way.

Q: What is a hopping Ghost? A: Scientifically speaking, it’s an undecayed corpse whose main soul, the po, has not yet left for the other world. Now, a po on the loose in the mortal world is bad news. It turns into an evil spirit. And a po with a corpse to occupy is even worse. It becomes a hopping ghost.

Q: What makes a hopping ghost hop? A: Many things, but mostly when a homesick corpse, not wanting to be buried in an unfamiliar village, hops home, po and all. In documented cases, the hopping corpse is often accompanied by an entourage of monks, Taoist priests, and mourners. Yin shock makes ghosts hop, too. The yin, as opposed to the yang, is dark, mysterious, and usually out to make trouble. (Cats and the moon are characteristically yin.) Should a fresh corpse somehow come into direct contact with a yin sort of energy, then it reacts, often becoming charged with superhuman powers. And it hops.

Q: How do you know when you’ve chanced upon a hopping ghost? A: It’s not terribly difficult to tell. Despite the corpse’s superhuman energy, rigor mortis does set in, and the joints get stiff enough that it is forced to hop stiffly. According to some reports they have resorted to flying. As for appearances, a hopping corpse usually wears Qing Dynasty burial clothes. As these went out of fashion a hundred or so years ago, the corpses stick out like a sore thumb. And they don’t worry too much about personal hygiene either. One hopping ghost stunk so badly that one whiff killed a relative and knocked another out cold. Some hopping ghosts are uglier than others. Some have tounges that hang down to their chest or eyeballs that aren’t too firmly attached to their sockets. But all hopping ghosts have unusually long fingernails that are their most lethal weapon (especially being on the end of stiff outstretched arms). Hopping ghosts keep best in coffins or caves. They’re not much for sunbathing. In fact, the sun’s first rays are enough to stop a hopping ghost dead in its tracks.

Q: What should I do if I run into a hopping ghost? A: Don’t breathe. Hopping ghosts detect humans by smelling their breath. The old clove-of-garlic-keeps-the-ghost-away trick will not work here. You could try pasting a yellow and red Chinese death blessing on its forehead. This will quiet many unsettled souls. In the event that you don’t have the above handy, just whip out any eight-sided Taoist mirror, a straw broom, long-grained rice, or just a few drops of fresh chicken blood. In a few seconds the corpse will be hopping scared.

Q: Just how dangerous are hopping ghosts? A: Well, lethal. Normally the hopping ghosts hops forward until it has gouged the victim’s neck and choked him/her to death. This is not a pleasant way to go. In one other case, the hopping corpse preferred to plop down on sleeping people’s heads thereby smothering an entire hotel full of guests.

Q: What can I do to get rid of pesky hopping ghosts? A: There’s only one way to do it, and that is to burn them, coffin and all.

Pinyin GUI (Chinese: “ghost,” or “demon”), in indigenous Chinese religion, a troublesome spirit that roams the world causing misfortune, illness, and death.

Kuei are spirits of individuals who were not properly buried or whose families neglected the proper memorial offerings; they lack the means to ascend to the spirit world, hence their malevolent disposition. In traditional China, numerous protective rituals and talismans were devised to ward kuei away from the family abode, and the main entrance was usually screened by a protective “shadow wall.”

Because the demons were believed to avoid light, the Chinese who were influenced by Taoism and folk religions used bonfires, firecrackers, and torches to ward off the kuei.

Shui Gui (Water ghost) - Ghosts that died of watery causes, they will haunt the pong, pool, lake, river or sea that they died or drown in. Fox Spirits/ Fox Fairy (Hu Li Jing/ Hu Xian) - These are foxes that accumulated enough earthly energies and skills to be able to transform into the Human Form. Those who came under their spells normally die very fast out of exhaustion due to the continual release of Yang Energies to the Fox spirits (usually through sexual contacts). Fox fairies are normally good spirits that if in the company of a human are geniunely in love with these humans and would not do harm and in some time even help these human using their supernatural powers. There are many love stories about Fox fairies and Humans. Interestingly, the chinese pronunciation for Saddam Hussien and Fox fairy is the same.

Kutti Saitan has a small body, almost ‘toyol-like’. It has long black hair and an ugly, disfigured face.

It’s favourite victims are childrens. It is believed that Kutti Saitan was once an aborted child. And because of this, it feels jealous for other children and don’t want them to live long.

Another aspect about Kutti Saitan is that, it is able to take the form of the child’s favourite person or idols before approaching them, including their own parents.

In Hinduism, the Ashuras are the demons who oppose the devas (the Gods). Both the Gods and the demons fought for the Homa, or the Amrta (the sacred drink that gives power). However, God Visnu (The Preserver), incarnated as a beautiful woman (Mohini), and helped the Gods to successfully drink the Amrta and attain power over the demons.

The various classes of Hindu Ashuras (demons) are Nagas (serpent demons); Ahi (the demon of drought); and Kamsa (an archdemon). Demons that afflict men include the Rakshasas, grotesque and hideous beings of various shapes who haunt cemeteries, impel men to perform foolish acts, attack Sadhus (saintly men), and Pisacas, beings who haunt places where violent deaths have occurred.

Goddess Durga is also known as Parvati or Lalitha. She is the wife of Lord Shiva and exists in various forms, both friendly and fearful. Two of her fierce but very powerful forms are Durga (Goddess beyond reach) and Kali (Goddess of destruction).

Both have eight hands and great power and energy (Shakti). Durga rides on a lion and Kali rides on a corpse of a demon. Parvati was called Sati in her previous divine incarnation. She has a charming personality and is adored and prayed by married women for a happy married life.

They were very evil Indian demons who roamed cemetaries, loved dead animals and even scared priests away. They possessed great supernatural powers and could transform into anything they like. Usually they would take the form of ugly deformed bodies. They would have oddly colored limbs everywhere in any part of the body.

They were extremely dangerous and always thirsty for blood. They had long poisonous nails and they eat human flesh, and sometimes even each other.

The word Rakshasa is in Sanskrit, Raksasa is for male while Raksasi is for female. According to the Hindu mythology, Rakshasa in general is a type of demon or goblin. They have the power to transform into animals, or monsters, or in the case of the female demons, as beautiful women.

They become most powerful during the dark hours of the night but are weaken by the rays of the shining sun. Like most other evil beings, they hate prayers and sacrifices.

The most powerful among the Rakshasa is their king, the 10-headed Ravana. It is said that Ravana was killed by the Goddess of Destruction, Kali. Another demon, the female Putana, is also well known for she tried to kill baby Krishna by offering him milk from her poisoned breasts. She was however killed by the Gods.

[ Young Krishna ] Although not all Rakshasas are equally evil, since some of them are actually the Yaksas (nature spirits) while others are similar to Ashuras (opponents of the Gods), the term Rakshasas generally applies to demons who haunt cemetaries, drink cow blood and eat the human flesh.

Sculptures and paintings show them with horrible appearance, sharp side tusks, ugly eyes, weird eyebrows, and carrying brutal weapons.

Perhaps the most famous, scariest and violent ghost in the Malaysian culture. Primarily, the Malays believe that it originates from a still born child, women who dies while giving birth, women who were killed by the pontianak or their spirits captured by them. The phrase “Pontianak” was believed from the acronym of “Perempuan Mati Beranak” in the Malay language, meaning the woman death by childbirth. After such death, precautions are taken to prevent them from rising like

Putting glass beads in the corpses mouth so that they can’t shriek

Placing eggs under the corpses armpits so that they can’t fly

Placing needles in their palms so that they can’t fly also ( apparently the palm helps the pontianak to fly )

Pontianak usually announces its presence through baby cries or turn themselves into beautiful lady and frighten or kill the unlucky who enter or pass through their vicinity. It usually disguise itself as a beautiful young lady to attract its victim (usually male). Its presence sometimes can be detected by a nice floral fragrance of the ‘kemboja’ (a type of flower) followed by an awful stench afterwards. The distance of a pontianaks cries are very tricky. The Malays believe that if the cry is soft means that the pontianak is near and if it is loud then it must be far.

Want to know how a pontianak kills? It digs into your stomach with its long sharp fingernails and feed on it to survive. And want to know why we don’t hang our clothes at night outside the house? It’s because people believe that it sniffs your clothes to suck your blood.

It is also believed that the pontianak can be killed by plunging a nail down the back of its neck whereby it will transform the pontianak into a beatiful normal girl.

The original Langsuyar was a beautiful young woman in green garb with long finger nails and ankle length black hair which concealed an opening in her neck through which she would drink the blood of children. This act was one of jealousy originating from the langsuyar having given birth to a still born before she became a monster. According to Malay mythology this child then became the Pontianak. which assumed the form of a night owl; a trait shared by its mother.

It seems that a langsuyar originates after her death ( still living ) while childbirth. ( I wonder why some chose to be langsuyars or pontianaks ). The ‘attacking’ method is far more different than a pontianak. Langsuyars usually prey on man ( I don’t know why).

But the most interesting part is they charm the man with her spells and magic. The man would run after her just to be with her. ( Unless if he notices her long nails - which look like those worn in Thai or Balinese culture dances ) Automatically, he inserts her long hair into a deep hole in her neck so that she looks like a normal woman and acts like them.

Langsuyars are known to born elfin children( That I don’t know why ). Always, the relationship between a human and a langsuyar always come to a tragic end ( What kind of end? suicide? kills?). I’ll let you know more if I have more info.

Mambang Kuning or known as the Yellow Spirits, dwell during sunset. At this time, they are at their peak and most mischevious. For a bomoh ( a witchman ) to summon them to do their bidding, their power must be at least as strong as the Mambang Kunings or more than that.

It is believed that if the glow is brighter, the danger is more apparent. If a person happens to spot it, then he or she in order to avoid trouble must take a mouthful of water and spit it out in the direction of the sunset while throwing a handful of ashes ( where do you get that? ) at the same time. He or she then must chant an invocation to the Mambang Kuning explaining that he or she is ‘putting out the brightness’.

If someone is sick after a particular sunset, then it is believed that he or she is suffering from weakness of spirit. To avoid this, one can follow the procedure’ above.

A very famous slave ghost. Toyol is the name given to this “being” that has been sadly abused by the power hungry, money crazed, egotistical humans and medicine-man in the South East Asia region of the world. It remains as a myth for the fear of retribution from the owner of the Toyol.

Toyol is a still born that is exhumed in the dead hours of the night. It is then brought back to life with incantations of the unholy and the sacrificial blood of a pure white rooster. Incense is also burned as an offering but doubt it has any merit to the gods(seems that the incense mask the reeking smell of death). Then it is housed in a large jar and set on an altar. It is then released from its jar after the bewitching hour and will heed any commands that the owner wishes it to execute. Toyols will kill, steal, maim and create havoc in small villages. Easy to do because they are in actual fact a little fetus. After it has done its deeds it will come back to the owner. The only catch in owning one is that it has to be fed with the blood of a white rooster and incense at midnight. But beware that all it takes is for you to miss one meal and it’ll go delirious and certain death will befall the owner.

If you try to get rid of it, it will come back to claim your life especially if you are a women ( women are said to give birth to toyols after 3 - 4 months , their stomachs bigger than usual ). Chinese call this ‘kwee kia’.

It will always remain a myth for the fear of retribution from the owner of the Toyol.

There are several version of the orang minyak (literally means ‘oily man’). According to history, Satan offered to help and grant worldly desires if the “orang minyak” raped 21 girls within seven days and worship Satan as a God. During the 1960s, the orang minyak existed around several towns of Malaysia raping young women. They covered their nude body with oil so that it would be difficult for anyone to catch them. Although the orang minyak of the 1960s were definitely human, there were countless stories of the orang minyak that was related to the supernatural as well as black magic. Below is an account of such story contributed by Blue Oyster. The orang minyak is actually a normal person but he has to rape virgin women to accomplish certain powers of the black arts. He would be nude and covered himself with oil. Anyway, this particular orang minyak I am going to tell you about is the one terrorising a higher education institute in Shah Alam. The story goes like this…….

One night, Minah was studying for her exams with her roommates. As the night fell deeper, Minah decided to turn in for the night and go to bed. She almost fell asleep when she suddenly felt someone on top of her. She opened her eyes and she saw this huge nude man forcing himself on her. He had a very dark complexion and he had strong, deep eyes. Minah tried to scream but no voice came out. She tried to push him off, but she didn’t have the strength for he was a big man. He was all over her and she was just helpless. She felt weak and hypnotised. Subsequently, she was raped.

Minah knew her roommates were still in the room but why didn’t they come and help? It angered her that her roommates would just sit there while she was being raped by this stranger. After everything was over, Minah finally found strength to cry out loud. Her roommates rush to her bedside and asked her if she was all right. Minah cursed them for not coming to her aid. They were puzzled by her sudden outcry. They calm her down and then asked her what went wrong. Minah was pale and still in a state of shock. Minah then asked them why they did not come to her aid when that man was raping her. All of them went stark white. They never thought that it was the orang minyak’s doing. In fact, none of them see the orang minyak. Perhaps the orang minyak has magic powers so that no one will be able to see him or perhaps he is not human after all.

To Minah, it was an experience that will haunt her for the rest of her life. The authorities were not able to capture this orang minyak who terrorised the Institute. The institute’s management decided to bring in a bomoh (Malay medium) to ‘chase’ this orang minyak away.

The Malays call it Hantu Tetek which means ‘Breast Ghost’ when translated to English. This ghost is a female ghost and has a huge breasts. She uses her breasts to attack its victim and make full use of her huge breasts to suffocate them to death. Some says, the Hantu Tetek’s breasts is at the back instead of the front. There are many different version of how this ghost came about. Some people says she is actually a Balinese witch.

Mothers in kampung villages usually warn their children of this ghost and tell them not to play outside during the dusk period for this ghosts favourite victim is young men and small children. Once caught, they’ll never be seen again.

The hantu bungkus, also known by many as pocong. It is usually found in villages wandering around and jumping off as though in search of something. Its jumps can range from 50 meter per jumps or at most 100 meter or more. The hantu bungkus got its name from its physical appearance. Its body is wrapped with ‘kain kapan’ (a cloth made for wrapping the dead in Malay culture) and its face could not be seen.

Mostly, the hantu bungkus wouldn’t bother anyone around it, so if ever you stumbled upon one. Don’t bother it or even try to disturb its path…don’t give it a reason to do otherwise.

Hantu tinggi or in English means the Tall Ghosts. Usually this type of ghost is not so tall when one encounters it. It only increase in height after somebody approaches it. Soon after, it will increase it height little by little until a person can barely look up to measure its height.

One word of caution when, if by any chances encounter this ghost…never look up when it has beginning to increase its height. Because once a person look up, their neck will be stuck and could never be move down again!!

Hantu Lilin means the candle ghost. It carries a candle around to wherever it goes. Why? Nobody knows. Hantu Lilin first made quite a stir on the newspaper somewhere back in the early 90’s when a group of youngster was taking picture by the sea at early dusk. The ghost’s form appeared on the picture that was getting developed as a very old and ugly lady holding a candle. Although it didn’t bother anybody, but at least it is also some proof that there’s spirit around us that we can not see. So, just beware of where we step our foot into at strange places.
The hantu raya is a shape shifting ghost. Usually, this ghost doesn’t use its natural ability. This is a ghost with a master (owner) and its purpose is to give its master wealth and richess. The master is responsible for taking care of the ghost until his death. Every owner of this ghosts must find his or her decendant before passing away because if it is to be without a master, it will then possed its master’s body after death and return home to act as his master and eat anything that it can find it that house. This will continue even after the body rot away. There are some cases that one man had died about a week but nobody in his household knew about it (because the ghost have already possesed his body) until they began to smell a bad odor coming from the man.
Pelesit is an evil spirit that usually carried off in the body of a grass hopper like insect. This spirit is usually sent off to another person as an evil mean as to possesed the victim. One of the usual counter measures used to deal with it is to catch the ‘pelesit’ and separate its head from its body. Usually, after the head and body is separated, there is a strand of hair attach to head that usually belong to the sender of the spirit.

Another method to counter the pelesit attack after the spirit has taken over the victim is to use pepper seeds and pressed it on the victim’s big toe. Also, this method can also be used to determined wether someone is being possesed or not. If he/she is being possesed, the pressing of the pepper seed will surely make them in pain.

The penunggu is also known by people of the west as the poltergeist. It is an evil spirit or more specifically a restless spirit that dwells an area or place. The type of area that is considered a ‘keras’ or haunted area is usually and old burial ground, a brutal crime spot or even a house of a person that practices black magic.

Usually in order to chase the Penunggu out of its place is to ask a ‘bomoh’ or an ‘alim’ person to do a cleansing ceremony. Some of the penunggu usually had some unsettling business or causes that it wanted to tell the living people about. If you are brave enough, try and listen to what it’s trying to tell.

One of the most famed and feard Malaysian ghosts around. In the State of Johor, it’s called Penanggal. In Malay, penanggal means remover while penanggalan is the removing action. So want to know what it looks like? It’s no less than the famous headless ghost with some slight differences and appearence. Some said it takes the form from the breast up while in the other states, it’s said to take the form of a flying head with only its heart and intestine hanging on to its head. It has its intestines as her entrails dripping with blood and when it touches any mortal, severe sickness follows. Her favs are pregnant women, young children and newly born baby (and not just any baby, the first born baby! ) and suck dry the baby’s blood. It cackles to announce her presence and often tries to enter through the floorboards to feast upon the victims blood. One way to counter this spirit attack is to put sharp object like ‘mengkuang leaf’ or long sharp nails to hinder it away. In addition, jeruju leaves (sharp and prickly) can also be hung in houses and thorny bushes were placed outside the house. Apparently her entrails would get caught in the sharp leaves. People believed the penanggalan originated from a women who sold her soul to the devil and on the day her apprenticeship ended, she was able to fly with only her head and entrails dangling.

The vampire is one of the oldest and most global myths of all. There are variations of creatures who rises from the dead to drink the blood of the living in almost every culture around the world. However, the vampire lore of the Slavic people are the most prominent.

The word ‘vampire’ comes from the Slavi word ‘obyri’ and ‘obiri’ which evolved into the Bulgarian word ‘vampir”. It is also believed to have to be derived from the Servian word, ‘wampira’. Another name for vampires is ‘Nosferatu’, which might have originated from the Greek word ‘nosophoros’ meaning “plague-carrier”, or that it evolved from the Old Slavonic word ‘nosufur-atu’. Russians, Morlacchians, inhabitants of Montenegro, Behemians, Servians, and Arnauts know the vampire as wukodalak, vurkulaka, or vrykolaka, which means ‘wolf-fairy’.

The origin in the vampire has been credited to Greek Christianity, but references of this myth can be found in earlier times, in Chaldean and Assyrian tablets. It is believed that the early vampire legends were developed to explain things that nature could not, like mysterious deaths and wasting diseases. For instance, the Greek vampire lamiani attacked babies and pregnant women so that miscarriage and still-born can be explained.

The Romans believed that the dead bodies of certain people could be raised from their graves by magic, as long as the body was not decomposed. The only way to prevent this was to cremate the remains.

From Greece and Rome, vampire lore spread throughout Austria, Hungary, Lorraine, Poland, Romania, Iceland, and the British Isles. It reached its height in the period from 1723 to 1735, when a vampire-related epidemic broke out in Hungary and Servia. The belief continued to gradually spread to the rest of the world, including the Asian countries and Africa.

In countries that believe suicide victims become vampires when they die, the myth is used to help the love ones cope with their deaths. By performing the vampire rituals to destroy the corpse through staking and cementation, for instance, it destroys the dead person’s psychological attachment to the living, allowing his family and friends to cope with their grief and move on.

We thought we would highlight the word poltergeist, because people tend to be frightened of this type of ghost, and with good understanding because Hollywood often portrays poltergeists in a negative and harmful way…..in reality the true poltergeist is dramatic, but not monstrous like they make them out to be. Poltergeist is a German word the literally means “noisy ghost”. The cases of poltergeist activity is the most commonly reported of all ghost activity, and gives the ghost hunter the greatest potential for capturing paranormal activity. Although the poltergeist is noisy its tends to be very shy, and you rarely see it, but you do see or hear the activity it is performing, such as opening or closing doors, moving objects, and just general noise…..it can be playful, annoying and in some extreme cases dangerous. The attraction to the poltergeist is because it takes on almost human like characteristics, but most documented poltergeist haunting only last a very short time less then 6 months and longer cases have been known, but stray from the general rules.

The ‘official demon’ of New Jersey since the 1930s, there has been over thirty variations of this legend that has developed over time. It’s description ranges from a feathered animal with the head of a ram to a flying lion to a green upright monster. The Jersey Devil is blamed for all unexplained animal deaths in the Jersey Pine Barrens and surrounding areas, mysterious footprints, and strange cries in the night. There are several new sightings of the beast reported every year.

There are various versions of the origin of the Jersey Devil, but they are all evolved around the name Leeds. Therefore, the original name for this creature is the Leeds Devil, which is still used in certain areas.

The most popular tale took place in 1735 where the 13th pregnancy of a Mrs. Leeds was said to have led to the birth of a devil child who flew away up her chimney. Local records vaguely supports the idea that a thirteenth child in a family named Leeds disappeared. Some believed that Mother Leeds was a witch and the child’s father was the devil. The child was described to have hooves, the head of a horse, bat wings, and a forked tail.

Another version tells of a Mrs. Shrouds of Leeds Point who wished her next child to be a devil, and gave birth to a misshapen and deformed child who also escaped up a chimney. Other stories that took place at Leeds Point includes the one which tells of a young girl who was cursed by the townspeople for falling in love with a British soldier during the Revolutionary War and as a result, gave birth to a devil child.

Since then, numerous New Jersey residents have earnestly reported sightings of the demon for the last two hundred years.

The Windigo is a terrible spirit of cannibalism that haunts the Algonkian-speaking Indians of Canada that can take both physical and mental forms. It is a half-phantom, half-beast that lives in the forests and preys on human beings, especially children. It can also take the form of a mental disorder that causes its victim to become a zombie that performs acts of cannibalism.

The name is derived from the Algonkian root word witiku, and means ‘evil spirit’ and ‘cannibal’. Its pronunciation varies from tribe to tribe, as are its spelling, but ‘Windigo’ is the most common way, followed by ‘Wendigo’.

The Windigo is a creature of the Algonkian people, which including the Micmac, Montagnais-Naskapi, Algonkin, Ojibwa, Cree, and the Blackfoot. The tribes live on reserves in the Maritimes, the Northwest Territories, and the northern regions of Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. The Windigo haunts the forests and tundra in the triangular domain reaching from the Atlantic Ocean in the east, to the Rocky Mountains in the west, and to the Arctic Ocean to the north.

There are many descriptions of the Windigo, but very few illustrations. The Windigo is the feared personification of both physical and spiritual famine. It can take the form of a half-phantom, half-beast that roams the forest, or a personality disorder or mental illness that causes its victim to become crazed and perform acts of cannibalism.

It can feast on flesh and blood, it can change shape at will, and it can scare its victims to death with a single look. It can strike such terror into a person that he would be rendered into a cannibalistic zombie void of all personality and individuality.

The Windigo has been described as an evil spirit, a ten-foot tall demon with an enormous head, gigantic teeth in a twisted mouth, beady eyes, and supernatural strength and speed. It moves faster than the human eye could follow, and can blend into the trees and winds. It may also be a human cannibal, for to come into the presence of an Windigo will trigger the transformation into one. To be bitten by one and to dream of one would also lead to the transformation. Unlike the transformation of vampires and werewolves, the curse of the Windigo is irreversible.

Werewolves were evil, vicious people who had the power to transform themselves into wolves. They roamed at night in search of human flesh and blood. Typical victims would be travellers.

Werewolves could become either half man half wolf, or wolves completely. It was believed that a werewolf were able to turn his skin inside out in order to hide his fur when in a human form. To prove this point, that is why many people who were suspected to be a werewolf were caught and had their bodies ripped.

How to recognise a werewolf during his human self?
It was said that these people would be very hairy, even their palms too. Their thick, bushy eyebrows would also meet in the middle. They would have small pointed ears and their middle finger would usually be as long as their second finger.

How to kill a werewolf?
The most effective way to kill a werewolf was with a bullet or knife or stake or anything sharp made from the silver of a melted crucifix. Normally, pure silver would do. The corpses had to be burned not buried coz werewolves were believed to be able to rise from the dead as a vampire.

Werewolves were normally associated with curses or dreadful accidents. Unwillingly sometimes, they had to transform into werewolves every night or with every full moon. They actually suffered a lot and would welcome death as a bonus for them.

Chupacabra is a mysterious beast from Puerto Rican folklore. The name translates to ‘goat sucker’ in Spanish, so called because of the way it all the blood from goats and other livestock, as well as household pets. It is said to have grey or green skin, fangs, red or black beady eyes, and spinal quills. It is bipedal at a height of around four to five feet, and has the ability to fly.

There are several variations of what people believe the Chupacabra to look like. The current theory is that it is a bipedal creature around four to five feet tall, with grey or green coloured skin, red or black beady eyes, and spinal quills down its back which it uses to fly. Some believes it to be a half-man, half-beast vampire, while still others say it is similar to a panther with red eyes and the tongue of a snake. Another version is that it hops like a kangaroo and smells like sulfur.

The name originated from the creature’s earliest attacks, where goats are found with puncture wounds on their necks and most of their blood drained. There are also reports of certain organs missing from the victims, yet no visible means of extraction was found on the bodies. Since then, the Chupacabras has been blamed in the deaths of over 2000 animals ranging from other livestock to household pets. However, human attacks have yet to be reported.

Although there are sightings of the Chupacabra for nearly half a century, the first official report from Puerto Rico in 1994 sparked worldwide recognition for the creature in the past several years. Through the Spanish-speaking media, the story traveled through Mexico and the United States, leading to sightings of the beast in several cities including Miami, New York, San Antonio, Cambridge, and San Francisco.

Demons are evil spirits. The term demon is derived from the Greek word daimon, which means a “supernatural being” or “spirit.” They are not ghosts since they were never a human being before. Most people would think that demons are originally angels who were expelled from heaven for not listening to God’s commands. Others believe that demons are simply supernatural evil spirits who bring you bad luck and hell. They are said to live in the world of hot coals and flames, and burrows of the tortured souls.

Since demons are spirits, they defy the law of physics and could take the form of the anything they desire.

The common misconception is that ghosts always appear as full manifestations, this is also fueled by Hollywood. Rarely have total manifestations been photographed by ghost hunters. The common way that ghosts appear on film is orbs (glowing round forms of light) Sphere’s (long forms of angular light) and Vortex (glowing forms of light looking like a tornado)and the last as Mist (looking like fog patch). The theories are that ghosts are energy and that with these are often detected as energy forms..balls of light, mist, etc…..also it is said that sometimes when they appear as this it is right before they will manifest themselves…true or not, this is usually the way that ghosts appear on film.
