Somewhere in Petaling Jaya, there are many Chinese cemeteries around. One particular one has a main road to cut through this cemetery and it is a long stretch of about 200m, located at the back of the cemetery.
About 2am in the morning, my two friends, Cindy and June sent a male friend home and they had to pass through this cemetery, TWICE. When they dropped him home, it was already close to 3am and they had to use that stretch of road to cut into the Federal Highway.
The moment they entered the stretch of road, June suddenly gave a remark, “Cindy, do you smell…”
Her voice trailed off and Cindy (she was the driver) quickly lifted her hand to turn the rear view mirror upwards.
What they smelt was a really strong flowery scent, almost choking them. Both staying really quiet, and stepping onto the accelerator, Cindy increased the volume of her radio player, looked straight at the road and continued to drive normally.
They both knew that someone or rather, something, was in the car with them at that very moment, hence the reason why Cindy turned the mirror away. She doesn’t want to see what was behind.
The moment they past the stretch of road, the scent disappeared just as swiftly as it came.
